The Event

Experts say the Salone del Mobile in Milan this year was the Salone of big numbers. With the return of Chinese visitors, design broke all records with 360 thousand visitors to the Fair and millions of views on social media. Inducement on the city, so it seems, increased by 30 percent.

And the Fuorisalone was not to be outdone: about 1,300 events, large and small, throughout the city and in locations outside the city as well. Some, like Villa Bagatti Valsecchi and Villa Borsani in Varedo, which hosted Alcova, collections by artists and designers from around the world, opened just for this occasion.

Ours was a full immersion in design, but with feet on the ground! Somebody wrote that there were so many furniture and objects at the Fair that we will never see in our homes, not real ones, but “capsule collections” as in the fashion world. The ones that everyone photographs because they are Instagrammable, but no one buys!”
